Sokraki, is a great example of a traditional Corfiot mountain village away from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism. It is located at a high altitude in the footfall of Mount Pantokrator. The traditional stone houses are linked by a labyrinth of narrow streets and pathways. Here, you will feel like you have stepped back in time to a Corfu of the middle ages.

Over the centuries and decades the village has become quieter as the young people leave for the city of Corfu and beyond. In recent years, foreigners have been buying properties in the village to carry out renovations of the old stone houses, to either live here or rent as holiday houses.

In the last few years, two new cafes have been opened which attract the many tourists who visit, often on foot on walking trails. There is also a small souvenir shop selling traditional items including olive wood products. These cafes are called “Cherry Cafe” and “Varzas” located in the centre of the village, which double up as mini-markets to cater for the needs for visitors and the villagers. In summer time, the village comes to life as more people come from Athens or abroad to enjoy the cooler temperatures at this 450 m altitude.

On 15th August, everyone comes together in celebration of the Panagia (Mother of Jesus) with singing and dancing accompanied by music and traditional food cooked on open grills.

Located 23 km from the city of Corfu at an altitude of 450 metres, it can be reached from either Acharavi in the north or Ipsos and Dasia to the south including Corfu Town. The roads, albeit challenging are rewarded by the spectacular views from the village when you arrive.
